Lint Trap

We all know how important it is to clean your lint trap. The #1 reason for home fires every year, according to fire departments. Sometimes it is a little annoying to empty out; but for the most part inconsequential.

I notice in the home where my family lives in constant agitation, individualistic ideologies, and prejudice against others who don’t “work as hard”; in the home where we must pay everything back yet money is abundant; where emotions are tolerated but never indulged, the lint trap is always full.

Without fail, when I do my laundry in the home where “Of course we’ll help”, “Of course you can stay here” but “When are you planning on leaving?” and “Let’s get you started on a payment plan”, the lint in the dryer is full when the dryer is empty. They used it, don’t need it anymore, don’t take a second look at that trap.

The next person who needs it can clean it. I did my laundry I’m leaving.

In the home where we are not well-off, maybe even poor, the place someone is always home, the doors are always open and something is cooked on the stove with a paper towel over it. The home with loud voices, pain in their hearts, food to give, and less to have; the lint trap is always empty.

When I do my laundry in this home, I check just to be sure. It is always ready for me to push start. No lint – cleaned out by the one before me for whoever uses the dryer next.

I’m done, but I’ll prepare it for the next person. I want to make sure whomever in my community is next to dry their clothes will have a dryer that’s ready for them. And if I can help, I will.
